Welcome to MandaWrites!
A Blog by a Neurodivergent Mom
During my 8 years of teaching, and 18 years of parenthood, I’ve imparted the best advice I have to every child and person I’ve come across. That advice is, “Your feelings matter, your thoughts have value, and you can accomplish the goals you set your mind AND EFFORTS to.” I'm a neurodivergent mom of 4 who became a mom so young, that I never really had a childhood. I have no regrets whatsoever, but because I became responsible for other people’s lives so young, I never really had the chance to work through my thoughts and feelings, and I never really learned from others how to process them either. All I knew is what I was told. I had lived my whole life being told that there are some things we are just supposed to internalize and never speak about. I was young and full of thoughts and feelings that I kept inside, mentally processing thousands of words per minute in an imaginary diary that would never see paper. That changed when I had my children. Raising my kids, I always made sure they knew they could tell me anything. I taught them that their thoughts and feelings had value, that what they had to say was important, that it’s okay to cry, even if you’re the only one doing it. I learned so much about being true to myself, and I imparted this wisdom to my children, the people I knew and met, and eventually even my parents. It turns out that they too had been taught to keep everything inside. Since then, I’ve been breaking generational curses, helping others grow, and planting seeds whose shade I’ll never sit in. I brought this same patience, love, drive, understanding, and kindness to the classroom, and as a result, I have thousands of babies in the world living their lives and exploring who their best selves are. That’s what I am writing this for. I’m giving myself and others a place to say the quiet part out loud. There is no hate here, just acceptance and love. There is no judgement, just observations. There are no strangers, only friends. It is my greatest hope that I will be able to use this space to bring people together, and that is why, I, Manda, Write.
