PANDORA'S BOX

Deep down by the ocean
There exists a simple vase.
That holds within its depths.
The magnitude of loss
Each sin unknown to man
In a paradise untold
Desperately held shut.
By a heart-shaped lock of gold
Along with all these sins
Sits a heap-full of shame.
For all the world’s evil
Had one woman left to blame.
And deep beyond the darkness
The never-ending onyx rooms.
Lied the tiniest of lights.
Meant to save her from her doom.
And this light it had a name
And it was shaped just like a child
An infant meant to save.
The world from all things vile
Her name was short and simple
Innocent and sweet
She was called simply “Hope”
She sat there in the peat
The world lay in ruins
As the evil was released
And all that was left
Was Hope, at Pandora’s feet.
So, when it came to mark my skin
At the entrance of my womb
I chose a symbol of life
Not a mark meant for a tomb
A simple treasure chest
One that’s meant to hold
All the hardship of relationships
To be opened by someone bold
And inside there lies a gift
A small and brilliant light
There is the gift of children
There can be the gift of light
In order to embrace it
And bask in all its warmth
One must fight all the demons.
From the darkness they come forth
Jealousy and anger,
Cruelty and greed
Should a person overcome these battles,
The gift they get is me.
And with my love comes a light
Even brighter than before
For there is no end to a woman’s generosity
Once you make it through the door
And the greatest gift of all
The one reserved for a king
Is the gift of life itself?
The gift of a human being
All that’s needed to gain this gift
Is to ask yourself who you want to be
For only those deserving
Will ever get the key.
